July Meeting

Join us for our July 2019 Wasatch Beekeepers Association meeting.

Please note that we are not meeting in the council chamber, our usual location, for this meeting. We are meeting in the same building, but on the second floor in room 800.

Rosemary Bennett will discuss

  • Wasp management and control (featuring Katrina Davitt’s slides)

Veldon Sorensen will discuss

  • Pollen trapping and collection

A guest speaker (to be announced) will discuss

  • Water and shade for honey bees

A guest speaker (to be announced) will discuss

  • Varroa control and treatment options (knowledge to prepare for August, the most important time to ensure varroa is well-managed for successful overwintering and health colonies in 2020).

James Peirce will be holding his annual robber screen workshop sometime in August. Robber screens are a basic and effective tool for affording colonies a degree of protection against robbing by other honey bee colonies and wasps through the dearth. Date to be announced.

  • What to look for during the inspection
  • Health concerns (e.g. chalkbrood, varroa, viruses, wax moth)
  • How to reverse hive bodies if warranted
  • How to do a powdered sugar roll

  • How to do an alcohol wash

January WBA Event Details

Time:  7:00 pm to 9:00 pm


There will be a “Tips & Tricks” and questions from 6:45 pm to 7:00 pm for those who get there early.

Topics: 

New Board Expectations and updates (Veldon Sorensen)              Managing Hives in the dead of winter  (Natalee Thompson, Jerry Lynn)      History of beekeeping and Jordan Trip (Albert Chubak)
Wasatch Beekeeping Association will be working with Utah State Extension Services and will have a “Beginning Beekeeping” class.  This will be on the same dates beginning on February 21, 2019 through June 2019.  The course location will be at the Salt Lake County Complex 2001 South State Street, but will be in the “South Building” in the Utah State Extension classroom.  The time will be from 6:00 pm to 6:50 pm so that these students can then come over to the main WBA meeting.  The cost will be $45.00 and will include the yearly membership dues to the Wasatch Beekeeping Association.We will be setting up an Eventbrite registration for this class.

Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 7:00 pm at the Salt Lake County Government building, 2001 South State Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84190. We will be meeting in the north building in the council chambers.
